Madihah Akhter is a PhD student in the history department and focuses on modern South Asia.
Madihah received a Master’s in history from Tufts University and a Bachelor’s in history (with honors) from UCLA. Her research interests include Islam in South Asia, gender, intellectual history, postcolonial theory, historiography and world history. Madihah’s MA thesis focused on feminism in Pakistan through the lens of Kishwar Naheed’s Urdu autobiography, Buri Aurat ki Katha, and she presented part of this thesis at the Annual Conference on South Asia in 2013. Her current research concerns gender and liberalism in princely India in the early twentieth century.
