Join us as Julie Foudy '94 interviews Simone Manuel '18 and Katie Ledecky '20. 

JULIE FOUDY ‘94 is a former captain of the US Women’s Soccer Team, 2x Olympic Gold Medalist, and 2x World Cup Champion. Author of Choose to Matter: Being Fabulously and Courageously YOU. She served on the Women’s Sports Foundation Board of Directors for 7 years and was a WSF advocacy consultant for two years, with a focus on Title IX, childhood obesity, and athletes’ rights issues. Foudy served as a member for the Commission on Title IX, appointed by President Bush and Secretary Paige. Foudy has also been named as one of the “100 Most Influential NCAA Student-Athletes.” The NCAA defines the 100 Most Influential Student-Athletes as those who have made a signifcant impact or major contributions to society.

SIMONE MANUEL ‘18 won gold in the Rio Olympics, and she has proven to be a personality that’s easy to connect with and an athlete with the courage, fire, and grit to perform her best in the biggest moments. After becoming the frst African-American woman to win an individual Olympic gold medal in swimming, she became the undisputed face of U.S. sprint as she brought home two Olympic golds, two silvers and grabbed five gold medals and one bronze at the following year’s World Championships. A barrier breaker, Manuel embraces the opportunity to discuss her role in history and the important angles she provides in discussions about race, inclusion, and equality

KATIE LEDECKY ‘20 is a five-time Olympic Gold Medalist, holds 14 World Records, and 36 American Records – a swimming phenom. In her two seasons with Stanford Cardinal swim team, Ledecky won eight NCAA titles and broke 15 NCAA records, helping to lead the team to back-to-back NCAA Team Championships and two Pac-12 Conference Team Championships. Ledecky has won multiple accolades during her time at Stanford, including nine-time All-American, CWSA Honda Cup Winner, 2017 AP Female Athlete of the Year, CSCAA Scholar All-American, and, most recently, the 2017-18 CoSIDA Division I Academic All-America Team Member of the Year. In 2018, Ledecky won the USA Swimming Golden Goggles Award as Female Swimmer of the Year for an unprecedented sixth straight year. She was also named to ESPN’s 20 Most Dominant Athletes of 2018, and Business Insider named her the #1 Most Dominant Athlete Alive in 2017. Katie Ledecky turned pro early 2018 with an announcement at DC’s National Press Club. She partnered with TYR in her first professional partnership. Out of the pool, Ledecky is a full-time student at Stanford majoring in Psychology.
