In her new book Naomi Seidman considers the Jewish move from traditional arranged marriage to modern romance through the literature that provided Jews with a sentimental education. She argues that the Jewish adoption of European romantic ideologies was always partial and ambivalent, forming a distinctively Jewish approach to sex, love, and marriage that in the twentieth century became the dominant romantic discourse in the West.
