Maria Massucco

Maria Florence Massucco is a PhD Candidate in Italian in the French & Italian Department of Stanford’s Division of Literatures, Cultures, and Languages. Her dissertation research focuses on the figure of the madwoman in 20th century Italian literature. This project invites consideration of the relationship between madness and gender in a cultural imaginary, with particular attention paid to the arenas of religion and (bio)medicine in modern Italian history. Maria has completed PhD minors in both French and Feminist, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.
