Assistant Professor of Classics
Ph.D. Harvard University (2022)

Miriam Kamil earned her PhD from Harvard University in 2022 and taught at Bryn Mawr and Hamilton College before joining the faculty at Stanford. She has published several articles and book chapters relating to her research interests in Augustan poetry, sex and gender in antiquity, and classical reception. Her revised dissertation book focuses on Ovidian poetics, investigating the interplay between poetic and political subversion in his epic masterpiece, the Metamorphoses. Her other book, under contract with University of California Press, examines receptions of antiquity in socially progressive subcultures over the past century. This branch of her research explores the ways that ancient literature and history have empowered marginalized individuals to form communities and enact change in the modern day.
