Quinn Mitsuko Parker

Quinn Mitsuko Parker (she/her) is a PhD candidate in the Oceans Department within the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability.  Quinn uses an interdisciplinary approach to research small-scale fisheries and their connections to food security, gender equity, and community wellbeing in the context of a changing climate, informed by political ecology and feminist theory. She is particularly interested in how these complex social-ecological systems have been shaped--by environmental, cultural, socio-economic, colonial, and historical drivers--and in turn how fisheries and blue foods more broadly can be managed to support gender equity, food security, and ecological well-being. Prior to beginning her PhD, Quinn worked for multiple years in sustainable development and community-based conservation in Anosy, Madagascar. She continues to work in coastal Madagascar for her doctoral work, with a particular focus on Madagascar's Grand Sud. She has also worked in community outreach and marine conservation in Newfoundland, Canada, and remains committed to community-engaged research that generates equitable solutions. Quinn holds an MSc in Conservation from University College London Department of Geography, and a BA in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Princeton University.
